Continuing Education Scholarship

The further education scholarship supports young people after the particularly successful completion of a vocational training in further professional qualification. The SBB coordinates the nationwide implementation on behalf of and with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

Graduates of a dual training apply to the place where their training contract was registered. This can be, for example, an industry and trade chamber, a craft chamber, a chamber of free professions or another vocational training center. Those who have completed a federally regulated training in the health care sector can apply directly to the SBB. Health care professions include nursing, health and nursing care, MTA, PTA, emergency medical technician/in and therapeutic professions such as physiotherapy or speech therapy.

Eligible are demanding - usually part-time - further education:

• Measures for the acquisition of professional qualifications (e.g. a welding course in the craft or courses in wound management, palliative care and other further education in nursing)
• Preparatory courses for examinations of professional further education, e.g. master, technician, business economist, specialist manager, specialist merchant, specialist further education intensive care and anaesthesia
• Seminars for the acquisition of interdisciplinary and social competences, e.g. foreign languages, software courses, quality management
• Part-time degree courses that build on training or employment (e.g. mechanical engineering, business administration, nursing management)

The funding of a measure is applied for before it begins. If the measure is eligible for funding, you can receive grants for:

• Measure costs
• Travel costs
• Accommodation costs
• Necessary working materials
• Examination costs
• IT bonus of €250 for the purchase of a computer in the first funding year in connection with a measure.
